2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Crushingly beautiful 'Prism' design, as soon as the light hits the back, there is a captivating blast of colours - it's a stunning view for sure!
- It is a pleasure to hold, handle, and use as a daily driver - the frame provides just enough grip to make it secure in hand, while the slim profile helps in keeping it pocket and one-hand friendly
- It manages to stay quite slim and lightweight (by today's standards) - the Galaxy A71 is just 7mm thin and weighs 179g
- Absolutely gorgeous, 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, with a tiny punch-hole camera and a near bezel-less design - you get vibrant colours and perfect inky blacks, as well as good sunlight legibility
- Video viewing and gaming experience on the giant display is an absolute delight - as far as media consumption goes, this is simply one of the best phones out there, period
- Running the Galaxy A71 is Samsung's OneUI 2 on Android 10 - which, as far as Android UIs go, is one of the most refined, well thought-out experiences
- There are many useful add-ons on board - like gesture navigation, and a great 'dark' mode
- Samsung Pay makes the cut too, making this the cheapest phone to sport the full version of the payments app, which will be especially useful if your transactions largely rely on card payments
- Good performance backed by the powerful Snapdragon 730 SoC, 8 GB of RAM, and super fast UFS storage - everything from daily use to complex games like PUBG is fairly smooth (add that to the ridiculously wide display, and all gamers are in for a treat)
- Good quad-camera setup on the back with a primary 64MP sensor, a secondary ultra-wide 12MP shooter, a 5MP Macro and a 5MP depth sensor
- The default 16MP photos from primary camera are good - detail is enough, dynamic range is very good, the colours are lively and saturated and the noise reduction works well
- The new 12MP ultra-wide camera is a notable upgrade over the old 8MP shooter in the Galaxy A70s in both resolution and picture quality - there is more detail, better sharpness, the colours are punchy, and, of course, you can fit a lot more in the frame
- The Galaxy A71 shoots good portraits, subject detection and separation are very good, and the blur looks just right
- Low light photos are decent from both primary and ultra-wide cameras and the night mode helps further in getting more light and reducing noise
- Good video recording performance with good detail levels, including some impressive slow-mo video recording with great stabilisation
- Good front camera - the 32-megapixel sensor does a good job with nice colours and wide dynamic range, the details are quite good as far as selfie cameras go
- The bundled in-ear earphones, when paired with Dolby Atmos, makes for a pretty good audio experience
- The loudspeaker is decent (though not exceptional)
- Very good battery life with a large 4500 mAh battery - it will comfortably last you a day or more, even with that large display
- There is also fast charging on-board, with the included 25W charger it takes 81 minutes for a full charge
- The Galaxy A71 is a good all-rounder and a tangible upgrade over the A70s - the large, beautiful Super AMOLED display + the big battery + Dolby Atmos support - make for an excellent media consumption device
|
- Sleek, classy design - the Galaxy M31s seems identical to the Galaxy A51, with a glossy polycarbonate back design - giving it a premium look
- The front gets a new trendy look with a hole-punch display, a first for the M-series
- It has good ergonomics and feels comfortable to hold and operate
- The side-mounted fingerprint scanner is quick to unlock the device
- Vivid, crisp and punchy 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with excellent viewing angles, and brightness levels - easily one of the best displays in the price bracket
- It also comes with "Widevine L1" certification, which helps stream content in crisp HD resolution
- Blacks are deep on the AMOLED display, which looks good with Dark mode enabled
- Samsung's OneUI is today one of the more clean, refined Android UIs that's especially well optimized for large displays like this one
- One UI also brings in other useful stuff, like a System-wide Dark mode (which turns the background completely black and looks great on the M31s' AMOLED display), and Always On Display option
- Decent performance with the Exynos 9611 at the core (similar to Snapdragon 665) - the phone is good for basic operations
- Good quad rear camera setup - 64MP main sensor + 12MP wide-angle lens + 5MP depth sensor + a 5MP macro camera
- Shots taken with the primary camera during daylight are quite satisfactory, images are detailed, especially the 64MP shots, and they showcase the good dynamic range
- The ultra-wide sensor, like on any budget phone, is a good addition - it takes social media-worthy images in great lighting conditions (in low-light, the quality dips and pictures look grainy and noisy, wide-angle shots also have barrel distortion at the edges)
- Photos taken in low-light looks good - switching to Night mode helps reduce grain in the output and further improves image quality
- Live Focus shots are quite impeccable and the camera app does give you the option to set the level of blur before taking a shot - edge detection is very good and the Galaxy M31 does a good job of separating the subject from the background
- The macro camera takes decent shots outdoors (though, the quality dips when indoors and the output is restricted to 5MP in resolution)
- The single take is a nice addition from the more expensive S20 series, it lets you capture multiple formats at once
- The 32MP selfie camera is quite good and takes detailed selfies (though in low light, the quality goes down a notch and results are grainy)
- Overall, the cameras on the M31s are good for the price bracket, even though they are not the best (that title crowned to the POCO X2)
- Monster 6000mAh battery delivers an incredible 2-3 days of usage easily, making for one of the largest battery life smartphones currently available
- Supports 25W fast charging - the phone takes around 2 hours to charge the battery completely, which is decent
- Consider the Galaxy M31s for its vivid display, capable optics and stellar on-battery time

2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- In-display fingerprint sensor is neither the fastest nor the more accurate
- Having said that, there are certainly even better performing competitors around, like the realme X2 Pro with it's top of the line Snapdragon 855 Plus CPU
- The 5MP macro camera is average, it has fixed focus so getting the focus right is difficult and the final output isn't that great
- Overall, for the price bracket, the camera package on the Galaxy A71 is good, but not the best - you will find better camera phones in the competition
- Having said that, both realme and Xiaomi are bringing meaningful innovation to their phone, be it higher watt charging, smooth display or top of the line performance, things which are not seen in the Galaxy A71 - in their comparison, the Galaxy A71 get a little overshadowed
|
- The Galaxy M31s feels hefty at 9.3mm thickness and 203g weight (though, it's worth it for the 6000 mAh battery it packs)
- However, it is an old chipset and heavy gaming and multi-tasking are taxing for the phone - the POCO X2 and the Realme 6 Pro are much better options that will handle gaming better than the Galaxy M31s
- Look elsewhere if performance and gaming capabilities are your primary deciding factors - the phones like Realme 6 Pro and Redmi X2 are better equipped to meet your requirements in the performance segment
