2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Crushingly beautiful 'Prism' design, as soon as the light hits the back, there is a captivating blast of colours - it's a stunning view for sure!
  • It is a pleasure to hold, handle, and use as a daily driver - the frame provides just enough grip to make it secure in hand, while the slim profile helps in keeping it pocket and one-hand friendly
  • It manages to stay quite slim and lightweight (by today's standards) - the Galaxy A71 is just 7mm thin and weighs 179g
  • Absolutely gorgeous, 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, with a tiny punch-hole camera and a near bezel-less design - you get vibrant colours and perfect inky blacks, as well as good sunlight legibility
  • Video viewing and gaming experience on the giant display is an absolute delight - as far as media consumption goes, this is simply one of the best phones out there, period
  • Running the Galaxy A71 is Samsung's OneUI 2 on Android 10 - which, as far as Android UIs go, is one of the most refined, well thought-out experiences
  • There are many useful add-ons on board - like gesture navigation, and a great 'dark' mode
  • Samsung Pay makes the cut too, making this the cheapest phone to sport the full version of the payments app, which will be especially useful if your transactions largely rely on card payments
  • Good performance backed by the powerful Snapdragon 730 SoC, 8 GB of RAM, and super fast UFS storage - everything from daily use to complex games like PUBG is fairly smooth (add that to the ridiculously wide display, and all gamers are in for a treat)
  • Good quad-camera setup on the back with a primary 64MP sensor, a secondary ultra-wide 12MP shooter, a 5MP Macro and a 5MP depth sensor
  • The default 16MP photos from primary camera are good - detail is enough, dynamic range is very good, the colours are lively and saturated and the noise reduction works well
  • The new 12MP ultra-wide camera is a notable upgrade over the old 8MP shooter in the Galaxy A70s in both resolution and picture quality - there is more detail, better sharpness, the colours are punchy, and, of course, you can fit a lot more in the frame
  • The Galaxy A71 shoots good portraits, subject detection and separation are very good, and the blur looks just right
  • Low light photos are decent from both primary and ultra-wide cameras and the night mode helps further in getting more light and reducing noise
  • Good video recording performance with good detail levels, including some impressive slow-mo video recording with great stabilisation
  • Good front camera - the 32-megapixel sensor does a good job with nice colours and wide dynamic range, the details are quite good as far as selfie cameras go
  • The bundled in-ear earphones, when paired with Dolby Atmos, makes for a pretty good audio experience
  • The loudspeaker is decent (though not exceptional)
  • Very good battery life with a large 4500 mAh battery - it will comfortably last you a day or more, even with that large display
  • There is also fast charging on-board, with the included 25W charger it takes 81 minutes for a full charge
  • The Galaxy A71 is a good all-rounder and a tangible upgrade over the A70s - the large, beautiful Super AMOLED display + the big battery + Dolby Atmos support - make for an excellent media consumption device
  • Premium, stylish glass-sandwich design - two glass sheets joined by an anodized aluminum frame
  • The back has a nice gradient effect - there's a subtle "X" pattern if you shine a light at it
  • Cold glass, colder metal, all curved and melded into one another, the Realme X2 Pro feels great in hand
  • Excellent, fast in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock
  • Beautiful, large, bright, vibrant OLED display, with a cool 90Hz refresh rate - the best display panel you will get at this price point
  • The 90Hz refresh rate means everything feels super snappy on the phone - from UI animations, webpage scrolling, to games
  • The screen also delivers HDR10+ support and a bunch of colour modes too, as well as a dark mode to take advantage of the OLED’s inky blacks
  • ColorOS is now more streamlined (and less bloat-y) than before, and still packs a bunch of useful add-on features, like Game space
  • Top-end flagship performance with the Snapdragon 855+ beast at the core (the cheapest phone with the flagship 855+ at present) - the X2 Pro steamrolls through anything you throw at it, including high-end games
  • Gaming on the phone is especially a treat, also because of the 90Hz screen
  • Nice, versatile quad camera setup: 64MP primary + 13MP telephoto + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP depth sensor
  • In daylight, the 64MP camera can grab some great shots - detail is great and dynamic range is fair
  • Very good portrait mode
  • The ultra-wide, and macro modes provide for some interesting framing options (though quality wise, they are not quite up there with the primary camera)
  • The telephoto lens is capable of 2X optical zoom, 5X hybrid zoom, and a total of 20X digital zoom - and, up to 5x zoom, the quality is pretty good, especially in good lighting conditions
  • Very good video capture with impressive electronic image stabilisation from the main camera - comparable to much more expensive phones
  • Good selfie camera too - its 16MP resolution captures detailed shots, and it shoots at up to FullHD video
  • Overall, the camera setup on the X2 Pro is very good for the price bracket, but it's not the best (Redmi K20 Pro, and Oneplus 7T do slightly better)
  • Excellent Dolby tuned stereo speakers - they are both loud and hard to cover up - listening to music on the phone is a joy
  • Very good battery life with a large 4000mAh battery - will give you up to 1.5 days of use with moderate usage
  • Includes crazy-fast 50W fast charging - the fastest in the industry till date - even beating top-end flagships like the Mate 30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 10 (by a massive margin) - it goes flat to 100% in just 30 minutes!
  • The X2 Pro is a smashing entry by Realme in the flagship space - it's crazy good value for money, completely changes the affordable flagship landscape, and is a power user's dream - as long as you are ok with a not-the-best-at-this-price-range camera, it will be hard to do better than the X2 Pro
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • In-display fingerprint sensor is neither the fastest nor the more accurate
  • Having said that, there are certainly even better performing competitors around, like the realme X2 Pro with it's top of the line Snapdragon 855 Plus CPU
  • The 5MP macro camera is average, it has fixed focus so getting the focus right is difficult and the final output isn't that great
  • Overall, for the price bracket, the camera package on the Galaxy A71 is good, but not the best - you will find better camera phones in the competition
  • Having said that, both realme and Xiaomi are bringing meaningful innovation to their phone, be it higher watt charging, smooth display or top of the line performance, things which are not seen in the Galaxy A71 - in their comparison, the Galaxy A71 get a little overshadowed
  • A bit beefy at 199g and 8.7mm thick
  • Like all glass backs, this one too is slippery and attracts fingerprints and smudges
  • It's still not as clean/simple as stock Android of course - very few custom skins are
  • Low light performance and the night mode aren't that great, with the lack of OIS
  • If you do want the best-camera-for-the-buck, or a notch-less screen however, consider the Xiaomi's Redmi K20 Pro - and if you are really keen on a clean, stock like Android experience, consider the OnePlus 7T (at a slightly higher price point)
