2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Jazzy, eye-catching back panel design with gradient finish and the unique diamond-shaped camera module
- The slim profile of the camera module barely protrudes from the back
- The in-display fingerprint sensor works well
- Face unlock is present too, which is reliable (though, not as quick as on the other phones at this price level)
- Vivid, crisp 6.38-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display - the colours are also very punchy thanks to the AMOLED panel, and text and icons are adequately sharp
- The display gets very bright, making it easily legible even under direct sunlight
- Widevine L1 DRM certified - you can watch Netflix and Prime in crisp HD resolution
- Funtouch OS based on Android 9 Pie looks very similar to iOS, and is pretty feature packed
- Decent performance powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 - it handles multitasking well and regular usage is smooth
- Decent set of quad rear cameras - 48MP primary + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth camera
- Close-ups are good, with good bokeh and details in objects
- In bokeh mode, the Vivo S1 Pro's depth camera does a decent job of detecting edges, and blurs out the right areas - colours and details are also good
- The macro camera is also handy at times, and lets you get very close to the subjects
- Very good 32MP selfie camera - it captures detailed photos when shooting under ideal light - results are fairly good even when shooting against the light
- The Vivo S1 Pro packs in a 4500 mAh battery, which easily lasts for 2 days of moderate use
- Overall, the Vivo S1 Pro is a decent pick if all you want is a stylish design, good battery life, and a punchy display
|
- Charming, fresh rear design - the Realme 7 features a mirror-split design, which creates some interesting patterns when light hits it
- The front is identical to the Realme 6 with a hole-punch and thin bezels all around
- Even though it uses plastic for the frame and back panel, the Realme 7 feels well-built and sturdy
- Face unlock and the side-mounted fingerprint sensor are quick
- The Realme 7 gets the same large 6.5 inches IPS LCD as the 6 - it can get very bright, and colours are nicely saturated
- The display supports up to 90Hz refresh rate which makes for a smooth experience - games that support 90Hz displays, like Alto's Odyssey, are particularly enjoyable to play
- Software on the Realme phones is much improved since the company switched to Realme UI, it is easy to use - it is also packed with features such as Digital Wellbeing, Focus Mode, Dark Mode, and Riding Mode among others - there are some exciting and useful features like Realme Dual-Mode Audio, which allows you to connect a Bluetooth and a wired headset at the same time to listen to music on the smartphone
- Rapid performance from the new MediaTek Helio G95 chipset - the SOC performs similar to the Helio G90T with an updated GPU, so apart from smooth regular usage, you would be getting a boost in your gaming sessions
- Good quad cameras at the back - the main unit boasts a 64MP sensor, with an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP micro and a 2MP depth sensor - Realme has upgraded the main sensor with a Sony sensor instead of a Samsung sensor on the Realme 6, everything else remains the same
- The daylight photos from the main sensor preserve the natural colour and have good exposure - it exhibits improved dynamic range, with better details compared to the Realme 6 - the new sensor is slightly better than the old one in the Realme 6
- The ultra-wide camera captures a wider perspective but details and colours are weaker compared to the main sensor as expected
- Portrait shots generally look good, and you get the option to adjust the background blur before shooting
- Low light photos look cleaner too, with less grain - shots captured using Night mode look more pleasing, compared to what the Realme 6 can produce
- The 16MP camera can take decent selfies - The selfie portrait mode is useful as it manages to correctly crop out the background, and there's also Night mode for bright selfies even in the dark
- Video rec. is decent, you have the option to rec. up to 4K without stabilisation - there's also Ultra Steady mode which offers great stabilisation but videos look a bit soft - ultra-wide camera videos are stabilised but less detailed, the resolution is limited to 1080p
- Overall, the cameras on the Realme 7 are a bit improved than the previous gen, which always a good thing
- Excellent battery life from the 5000 mAh battery, which is a big upgrade the Realme 6 - even with medium to heavy usage, it will get you a day and half of runtime on one charge
- 30W Dart Charge fast charging is very good and takes just about an hour to fill up the phone - it also supports 15W USB-C Power Delivery fast charging, which is handy
- The Realme 7 isn't a major update over the Realme 6, but it's a good enough refresh with its larger battery and better primary camera sensor - overall performance is very good, battery life is excellent, and the 90Hz display makes general usage feel smooth and fluid - the Realme 7 also looks great, it offers good value for your money

2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- The Vivo S1 Pro feels a little chunky at 8.68mm thick
- The back isn't glass, as Vivo still uses laminated plastic
- Having said that, the interface is unnecessarily complicated - swipe-up gesture to access system shortcuts is confusing, since it's in the notification shade in stock or other Android UIs
- There's a lot of bloatware preinstalled on the Vivo S1 Pro (though the third-party apps can be removed)
- Heavy games such as PUBG Mobile however struggle to run at a smooth frame rate even at the Low graphics preset
- This isn't a bad processor, but it's typically now found in phones closer to the Rs. 10, 000 mark, such as the Realme 5i
- In daylight, the primary camera manage to capture average-looking landscape shots - images lack depth, objects at the sides of the frame also have a bit of grain - HDR kicks in when needed, but the end result isn't always very good - some images have a very cool, bluish hue to them, which look unnatural
- The wide-angle camera offered a nice perspective, but colours weren't very accurate
- Low-light photos are just strictly average - focusing is a lot slower in the dark, and it takes a second or two longer to save each photo - there's no dedicated night shooting mode either
- No option for a background bokeh effect with the front camera
- Videos can only be recorded at up to 1080p, which is not great, especially at this price - there's no stabilisation either, which is a big letdown
- Low-light video is not very good, from both primary & ultra-wide lens - has lots of grain as well as weak details
- Overall, rear cameras are nothing special - you will get better outcomes with the Realme X2 or the Redmi K20
- The single speaker doesn't get too loud and the sound is a little tinny
- Vivo uses its Dual Engine Fast Charge feature, but the 18W charger isn't the fastest - charging the phone completely takes about two and a half hours
- If you'd prefer a more well-rounded phone though, we suggest looking at offerings from Realme and Xiaomi instead, such as the Realme X2 and the Redmi K20, which have much more powerful SoCs
|
- The Realme 7 is actually thicker (9.4mm) and heavier (196.5g) than the 6, and this is very noticeable in daily usage - one-handed texting or photography can get fatiguing really quickly due to the additional weight
- There are still several pre-loaded apps however (though most of these can thankfully be uninstalled)
- The 2MP macro camera is not great, and even photos taken in broad daylight look quite poor
