2-minute Review [Positives]
  • The design feels fresh and vibrant - phone's sleek profile is eye-catching, with a matte back glass, it is one of the nicest looking phones for the price
  • The phone looks quite flawless from the back, it features a rather flashy back cover
  • The Vivo V20 is one of the lightest around in the price segment, and at 7.38mm in thickness, it is surprisingly slim
  • The power button has a texture to give it a more distinguished feeling
  • The in-display fingerprint scanner, as well as face recognition, are quick to unlock the V20
  • The display is a gorgeous 6.44-inch AMOLED FHD+ panel which promises vibrant and life-like colours - the contrast is impressive and it also supports HDR10 for high-quality video playback
  • It gets bright enough for using the device even under harsh sunlight
  • The Vivo V20 comes with Android 11 out of the box, with Vivo's new Funtouch OS 11 - this new skin by Vivo brings several bells and whistles, and a much cleaner, simpler interface - there's an improved dark mode and tons of customisation options
  • Good performance from the Snapdragon 720G SoC - it is good enough to help you through tasks of daily use and even running multiple apps simultaneously - casual gaming is no issue and heavy games run at medium settings, which is decent
  • Good triple cameras for the price - a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP mono camera
  • Photos shot in bright sunny conditions turned out well - images clicked using the device generally come out with life-like colours and packing good detail
  • The Ultra-wide camera adds fun new perspectives, it can take dramatic super-wide-angle photos with lesser details than the main camera - besides, it can also take Macro shots, which come out with good detail, and you end up with a higher resolution image compared to what most dedicated macro cameras produce
  • Portraits have good edge detection and you do get the option to set the intensity of the blur effect - beautification is enabled by default which smoothens skin textures
  • Low-light camera performance is good, photos have little noise and details in brighter areas are decent - enabling Night mode improves the level of detail
  • The 44MP selfie camera is very good at what it does - daylight selfies are sharp with accurate colours and good details, there's also an Eye Autofocus option that keeps the subject in sharp focus - portrait selfies are possible and you can set the level of blur before taking a shot
  • Video recording in daylight is good, video recording tops out at 4K for the primary as well as the selfie shooter - footage shot in 4K, as well as 1080p, is stabilised (though, video shot in low light has a shimmer effect at both resolutions, which isn't good)
  • Overall, cameras are one of the highlights of the phone and they can take on any other capable camera phone at this price
  • Good battery life from the 4000 mAh battery - it can easily manage to keep the phone going on for around a day on moderate-heavy use
  • Charging is quick with the supplied 33W FlashCharge charger - it takes the V20 to 98 percent in an hour
  • If you value looks over other aspects, the Vivo V20 will appeal to you, it is well designed and feels premium to the touch - the device also offers above par photography performance, it emerges as a very good option for taking pictures and shooting videos
  • Xiaomi has gone big on the design front this time - the Redmi K20 Pro has a glass back with one of the most evocative gradient patterns you'll come across on any phone today - it's both premium to feel, and stunning to look at
  • The gradient effect that kicks in under the right lighting condition is quite mesmerising
  • The front is modern and sharp too, with a 'full screen' notch-less display (the selfie camera is a 'popup' one)
  • Decent in-screen fingerprint sensor - reasonably quick and reliable
  • Gorgeous, 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display - easily one of the best panels you'll find in this price segment - it has vibrant colors and excellent contrast levels, and sunlight readability is great as well
  • Of course, the lack of a cutout means you get an all-screen front, and the minimal bezels at the top and bottom create an immersive experience when playing games or viewing videos on the device
  • MIUI, especially with it's recent improvements continues to one of the better, more cohesive custom Android UIs around - and it's packed with features like gesture navigation, anti-flicker mode, reading mode, second space, dual apps, themes, etc
  • The K20 Pro also adds the POCO Launcher on top of MIUI - which brings the Dark Mode and App drawer to the K20 Pro
  • Xiaomi is also rolling out a Game Turbo feature that prioritizes bandwidth and mutes incoming notifications when you're in a game
  • Top-notch flagship performance with the top-notch Snapdragon 855 chipset at the core - the K20 Pro is expectedly a performance beast - and gets the highest Antutu scores of any Android phone at the moment
  • Very good triple rear camera setup - the phone has a 48MP primary camera backed by an 8MP telephoto lens and a 13MP wide-angle shooter
  • Image quality is great in all sorts of lighting conditions - they look crisp, vibrant, and details are captured well
  • The ultra-wide sensor and 2x telephoto lens also produce generally good results
  • The K20 Pro also comes with a dedicated night mode that does the usual multi-frame processing, and the results are pretty good - it gets more light in, and makes things sharper
  • Decent 20MP popup selfie camera, with a good portrait mode
  • Overall, the rear camera setup on the K20 Pro is the best for this price bracket, and matches up well to more expensive phones like the OnePlus 7 and Asus 6Z
  • Has a 3.5mm jack, that a lot of flagships these days tend to skimp on
  • Loud (single) downward firing speaker
  • Very good battery life with a 4000mAH battery - combine that with a very efficient 855 processor, and you will comfortably get 1.5 days of use
  • Fast charging support - up to a cool 27W (a 27W capacity charger will however need to be purchased separately for super fast charging - that said, Xiaomi does include a still-very-fast 18W charger in the box)
  • Xiaomi has again hit the ball out of the park with the Redmi K20 Pro, providing a still-excellent-value successor to the super successful Poco F1 - this is the cheapest price point at which you will get the flagship Snapdragon 855, along with all the latest features of 2019 - full screen, popup selfie camera, and in-display fingerprint sensor - people who attach more value to the software experience though might still want to spend a little more and go for the OnePlus 7 or Asus 6Z, for a cleaner experience
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Because of its slim profile, the Vivo V20 is a bit slippery
  • Though, it isn't a high-refresh-rate panel
  • However, this isn't the best performing phone at the price, there are better options available like the OnePlus Nord
  • However, if heavy-duty gaming is what you're looking for, alternatives such as the OnePlus Nord offer significantly better performance, you can also consider the Galaxy M51 for its insane battery life powered by a 7000 mAh battery
  • Face unlock mechanism is a little clunky - you have to first wake the screen and swipe up for the camera module to engage (this might get sorted via a software update though)
  • One issue with MIUI in recent times is the ads in the interface & notifications - those are still there (though a little less intrusive) - and while there are ways to disable them, it's a technical solution that a lot of prospective buyers will not be aware of
