2-minute Review [Positives] |
- The design feels fresh and vibrant - phone's sleek profile is eye-catching, with a matte back glass, it is one of the nicest looking phones for the price
- The phone looks quite flawless from the back, it features a rather flashy back cover
- The Vivo V20 Pro is one of the lightest around in this price segment, and at 7.38mm in thickness, it is surprisingly slim
- The power button has a texture to give it a more distinguished feeling
- The in-display fingerprint scanner, as well as face recognition, are quick to unlock the V20
- The display is a gorgeous 6.44-inch AMOLED FHD+ panel which promises vibrant and life-like colours - the contrast is impressive and it also supports HDR10 for high-quality video playback
- It gets bright enough for using the device even under harsh sunlight
- The Vivo V20 Pro comes with Android 11 out of the box, with Vivo's new Funtouch OS 11 - this new skin by Vivo brings several bells and whistles, and a much cleaner, simpler interface - there's an improved dark mode and tons of customisation options
- Very Good performance from the Snapdragon 765G SoC - it is a capable chip that can handle everything you throw at it - gaming is no issue, it takes care of casual titles as well heavy 3D games like COD with ease
- Good triple cameras for the price - a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP mono camera
- Photos shot in bright sunny conditions turned out well - images clicked using the device generally come out with life-like colours and packing good detail
- The Ultra-wide camera adds fun new perspectives, it can take dramatic super-wide-angle photos with lesser details than the main camera - besides, it can also take Macro shots, which come out with good detail, and you end up with a higher resolution image compared to what most dedicated macro cameras produce
- Portraits have good edge detection and you do get the option to set the intensity of the blur effect - beautification is enabled by default which smoothens skin textures
- Low-light camera performance is good, photos have little noise and details in brighter areas are decent - enabling Night mode improves the level of detail
- The 44MP selfie camera is very good at what it does - daylight selfies are sharp with accurate colours and good details, there's also an Eye Autofocus option that keeps the subject in sharp focus - portrait selfies are possible and you can set the level of blur before taking a shot
- The Vivo V20 Pro has an additional 8MP ultra-wide camera at the front for all your group photos - it manages to capture a lot wider view of the scene
- Video recording in daylight is good, video recording tops out at 4K for the primary as well as the selfie shooter - footage shot in 4K, as well as 1080p, is stabilised (though, video shot in low light has a shimmer effect at both resolutions, which isn't good)
- Overall, cameras are one of the highlights of the phone and they can take on any other capable camera phone at this price
- Good battery life from the 4000 mAh battery - it can easily manage to keep the phone going on for around a day on moderate-heavy use
- Charging is quick with the supplied 33W FlashCharge charger - it takes the V20 to 98 percent in an hour
- The V20 Pro is all about: selfies, looks, and raw performance - it adds valuable upgrades over the V20 and manages to provide an excellent value for money
|
- Shiny, premium design - the back panel features a dual-tone gradient texture, which shifts shade depending on the angle light hits it
- The front looks similar to the V20, with its narrow bezels and a small dew-drop notch
- The smartphone is thin and the weight is easily manageable - and the curved sides make the phone comfortable to hold and carry around
- The in-display fingerprint scanner as well as face recognition is quick to unlock the Vivo V20 SE
- The display is a gorgeous 6.44-inch AMOLED FHD+ panel which promises vibrant and life-like colours, similar to the Vivo V20 - the display has good viewing angles and gets bright enough when outdoors
- The Vivo V20 SE comes with Android 10 out of the box with Vivo's new Funtouch OS 11 and not Android 11 like on the elder sibling, but Vivo has promised the update to 11 at the time of launch, - this new skin by Vivo brings several bells and whistles, and a much cleaner, simpler interface - there's an improved dark mode and ton of customisation option
- Good triple rear camera setup - a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera that is also capable of macro photography, and a 2MP depth sensor
- In daylight, the Vivo V20 SE manage decent shots with good details on objects even at a distance - while shooting outdoors in bright conditions, the V20 SE is quick to enable HDR
- The ultra-wide-angle camera offers a wider field of view but at the cost of details - the images aren't as sharp as the primary camera, but they fit a lot more scene into the picture - Close-ups with this camera turn out well, and the phone manages to capture sharp images, this is much better than the dedicated low-resolution sensors
- Portrait shots with steady subjects turn out well, with good edge detection
- The V20 SE manage good selfies in daylight as well as low light - you can take portrait shots using the selfie camera, and the V20 SE blurs out the background automatically
- Battery life on the V20 SE is good from the 4100 mAh battery, and the phone goes on for a day and a half on a single charge
- Charging is also quick with the 33W charger bundled in the box - the device gets to about 96 per cent in an hour
- The V20 SE is a good phone that has a few things going for it - the device offers a lightweight design and decent cameras for the price
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- Because of its slim profile, the Vivo V20 Pro is a bit slippery
- The front looks a bit dated with a wide notch, which even cheaper phones have abandoned
- Though, it isn't a high-refresh-rate panel
- No 3.5mm headphone jack
|
- The glossy finish at the back is prone to fingerprints and smudges
- The panel lacks support for fast refresh rate
- Average performance from the Snapdragon 665 - this isn't the most powerful chipset for the price, it is available on phones at half the price, the competitors like the Poco X3 offer much better performance for this segment
- Low-light camera performance is average overall - photos appear smooth and objects at a distance have a watercolour-like effect - enabling Night Mode results in slightly brighter images, but nothing game-changing
- On the other hand, if you are looking for a well-rounded smartphone, the V20 SE isn't your best bet - it sports a weaker processor, which is evident when playing heavy games, in this case, the Realme 7 Pro and the Poco X3 would be suitable alternatives
