2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Has a visibly smaller profile than its predecessor (Redmi 5), and is a joy to handle, thanks to its smaller footprint, especially if you struggle while using the large screen smartphones out there
- The fingerprint sensor is blazing fast, and there is also 'Face Unlock' that works fine in well-lit conditions
- Good, modern, tall display at this price point - delivers punchy colors, though sunlight legibility could have been a little better
- MIUI is one of the nicer Android UIs, and is quite feature-rich
- The Helio P22 is a bit better than the Redmi 5's Snapdragon 450, and you can certainly see a performance jump in terms of gaming - for a device at this price point, the Redmi 6 comes across as surprisingly good with gaming performance
- Packs a good dual rear camera set-up - as far as the Redmi 6’s camera performance is considered, it rises above its budget status and delivers some pretty good quality images for a smartphone at this price - in well-lit conditions, it can take click some really nice photos with good color accuracy and minimal noise - in fact, in daylight, the Redmi 6 is simply the best at its price point - the portrait shots clicked by the Redmi 6 are also quite vibrant and the depth reproduction is adequate too - the colors are accurate too, especially if the photos are clicked in outdoor environments under abundant sunlight
- Overall, the quality of the rear camera is one area where the Redmi 6 is a significant upgrade over the Redmi 5
- Decent selfie camera too - manages to capture some decent shots, and bokeh shots are fine to
- Decent battery life - the 3000mAh battery will comfortably provide a full work-day, with moderate use
- Overall, the Redmi 6 looks like yet another winner from Xiaomi - the overall performance, battery life and an above-par photography experience significantly outweigh the drawbacks
- In the competition, the Realme 2 is a compelling option, but sluggish performance and relatively underwhelming cameras will likely make most people prefer the Redmi 6 - the Redmi 5 might actually be a more serious competitor and will give you better build quality but the Redmi 6 is newer (hence, will receive more updates), has the better camera, and better gaming performance
|
- Very good build quality
- Nice looking plastic design, with a matte finish (though it's not quite as stylish and modern as the Realme C2, with the company's trademark diamond design and dewdrop notch)
- Matte finish means it's easier to keep the phone's body clean and also doesn't highlight scratches
- It is also a pretty compact phone - if you like smaller phones, you will like the Redmi 7A - it fits well in hands
- Splash proof
- Fast face unlock
- Decent 5.45-inch IPS display with good viewing angles
- MIUI is one of the more refined Android UIs, and packs many features like 'dark mode', 'reading mode' etc - this time the ads are relatively less intrusive too, compared to recent Redmi phones (although they are still there)
- Pretty decent performance with the new Snapdragon 439 processor - day-to-day use is fairly smooth, and simple games run well
- Overall processor performance is pretty similar compared to its main competitor, the Realme C2
- Decent set of rear (12MP) and front cameras (5MP), for the price bracket
- In outdoor situations specially, the cameras deliver good results with pretty good details and colours
- Overall, the camera performance is similar to the other "relatively good" camera phone for the ultra-budget category, the Realme C2
- Very good battery life with a large 4000mAH battery - you can easily get up to 1.5 days of use
- The Xiaomi Redmi 7A is the first Xiaomi phone to come with two years of warranty
- Overall, the Redmi 7A is a pretty solid ultra-budget option from the Xiaomi camp - if you don't care much for having a stylish design, and your performance requirements are basic, it's a good, reliable option to go for
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- While the phone looks pretty decent, the glossy plastic build is arguably a step backwards from the metal build of the Redmi 5 - if aesthetics and better build quality are what you are after, the older Redmi 5 is the better option - or you can also check out the Realme 2, which offers a unique dual-glass design with some eye-catching patterns on the rear panel
- Low light performance is more of a mixed bag, with not that great color reproduction
- The repositioned loudspeaker at the rear is not the best decision - sound will tend to be muffled when the phone is placed on its back - considering that the Redmi 5 had it on the bottom frame
|
- While the design is pretty decent, it does looks a bit old-school with the large bezels
- Sunlight legibility could have been better
- 2GB RAM is somewhat limiting in terms of multitasking performance
- Low light performance is expectedly average though
