2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Well-built, sturdy design - the unique matte-finish ridged pattern at the back looks really nice
  • The front carries a dew-drop notch with decent bezels, which works for the price
  • The textured back surface feels grippy and doesn't attract fingerprints
  • The back has a fingerprint reader that works accurately and fast (though, the face recognition isn't very quick)
  • It doesn't feel too thick or heavy even though it measures around 9mm and weighs 194g
  • Good 6.53-inch IPS HD+ display - the viewing angles and colours are pretty good, better than those of the Realme C12 and C15
  • The brightness is also adequate (though, it could have been better)
  • MIUI 11 is as feature rich as ever, the overall interface on the phone is user friendly - Android 10 is running beneath all the jazz
  • Decent entry-level performance from the MediaTek Helio G35 SoC - good for day-to-day tasks and can handle a bunch of light to medium apps at once (though, there's some noticeable stutter in the animations and opening apps at times)
  • Decent dual cameras for the price - a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor
  • The quality of photos from the main camera is decent, given enough light - shots came out looking crisp and vivid
  • Portrait mode works fairly well, even for objects
  • The 5MP selfie camera can produce decent selfies during the day - photos maintain good color, and exposure levels
  • Very good battery life - easily able to go about a day and half or even longer, on a single charge
  • Catchy, elegant 'V-pattern' rear design - the V-design at the back with a smooth texture gives the device a good look
  • Trendy, tear-drop notch front design - the bezels on the sides are thin for smartphones at this price
  • The 20:9 aspect ratio makes the smartphone tall and slim, so it's relatively comfortable to hold and use
  • The fingerprint scanner is located on the rear and works well, so does the Face Unlock
  • The weight is evenly distributed, the device doesn't feel too heavy to hold
  • Large, 6.5 inch IPS display with HD+ resolution - the colors are vibrant with a decent amount of sharpness
  • Sunlight legibility is decent - the display gets bright enough for comfortable outdoor use
  • The Narzo 20A comes with Realme UI based on Android 10 which is much more streamlined and clean compared to previous realme phones - it still packs a lot of useful features like Dark Mode, Focus mode, Game Space and Personal Information Protection
  • Decent triple camera setup for the price - a 12MP primary shooter + a 2MP depth sensor + a 2MP ‘retro’ unit
  • The primary camera can take nice pictures in good lighting conditions, the colour accuracy is good and the dynamic range and sharpness are also decent enough and for a phone at this price
  • There's also a decent Macro mode which lets you get very close to the subject (focusing at a close distance could be an issue though)
  • The portrait shots also come out good and they are usable for most scenarios
  • Decent video recording quality, with a option to shoot slow-motion videos
  • Impressive battery life with a big 5000 mAh battery - it lasts for two full days on a single charge with moderate usage
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • It packs in plenty pre-installed bloatware, the ads are still here, it isn't the perfect user experience
  • The Redmi 9 really struggles in low light - details are generally weak when shooting at night
  • Video quality is strictly average
  • The phone doesn't support fast charging and an hour of charge could only fill the battery to 40-percent charge
  • The Redmi 9 doesn't have any singular standout feature which it can lean on to differentiate itself and command a premium - it is easily outperformed by competition, including Xiaomi’s own Redmi 9 Prime, for just money, you end up getting a much better overall device in the 9 Prime
  • There is no Widevine L1 certification which means that you cannot enjoy HD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime
  • There's still some bloatware that comes pre-installed
  • Poor performance from the Snapdragon 665 SOC - opening up apps, scrolling through the interface, heading to settings, or even just going through the list of apps is a painfully slow process - the performance of the phone is pretty disappointing to the extent that this could be one of the worst-performing phones in some years
  • Low light photos are average, as expected, they lack detail and aren't very sharp
  • Selfies are average too with inaccurate colour tone and low sharpness and details - the portrait selfie is not very consistent either
  • Still offers the old MicroUSB, while the competition has started offering USB Type-C in the budget segment
  • Charging is on the slower side with the 10W charger - it takes over 3 hours to charge the smartphone completely
  • The Realme Narzo 20A offers a good display, new design, and excellent battery life, however, the performance lets you down big time - with Realme Narzo 20A letting you down even with basic apps and day to day usage, it is difficult to recommend this phone to anyone
