2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Quite pristine design - the Realme 6 has a gradient finish with multiple streaks running down the back, converging at the bottom centre - it shines when light hits it, giving the phone a premium look
  • Trendy, modern hole-punch design at the front, which isn't very common at this price point
  • Compared to the Realme 5, the Realme 6 has a rounded, curvier back that makes it more ergonomic to hold
  • The side-mounted fingerprint scanner is quick and accurate
  • Face unlock is super quick and combined with raise-to-wake feature, makes for a seamless unlocking experience
  • Good, large 6.5 inches full-HD+ IPS display with thin bezels and new punch-hole camera - the colours and peak brightness of the screen are good
  • The display has a 90Hz refresh rate which helps the smartphone deliver a smooth experience - games that support 90Hz displays, like Alto's Odyssey, are particularly enjoyable to play
  • Software is one place where Realme has taken a big leap, the Realme UI is easy to use - it is also feature packed, such as Digital Wellbeing, Focus Mode, Dark Mode, and Riding Mode among others - there are some interesting and useful features like Realme Dual-Mode Audio, which allows you to connect a Bluetooth and a wired headset at the same time to listen to music on the smartphone
  • Super snappy performance with the powerful MediaTek Helio G90T - day to day tasks are a breeze on this phone, applications open quickly, RAM management is quite good and multitasking is also handled well - the phone breezes through medium and high-level graphic-intensive games like PUBG, which runs smoothly
  • Good quad-camera setup at the back consisting of a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP Ultra-wide angle camera, a 2MP monochrome camera, and a 2MP macro camera
  • In daylight, primary camera captures some fine-looking shots with a good amount of detail and dynamic range, it is quick to focus and meter light properly in most scenarios - image processing does a good job at adding punchy-ness to the colours
  • The wide-angle camera is decent and offer a wide field of view which comes handy in tight places and capturing more area - warping on the edges is taken care of decently through software (though, the quality isn't as good as the primary sensor)
  • Selfies shot with the Realme 6 have good detail, and beautification is enabled by default, photos are good enough to be shared on social media - you can take portrait shots, panoramas and even time-lapse videos with the front camera
  • The new black and white monochrome lens helps take great monochrome portraits - this lens helps the main sensor grab a wider spectrum of greys, hence adding more richness and texture to portrait shots
  • Battery life on the Realme 6 is quite good with the 4300 mAh cell, manages to go on for over a day and a half before needing to be plugged in
  • The 30W fast charging is unheard of at this price and that too with bundled charger in the box - the phone gets to 65 percent in 30 minutes and took a little over an hour to charge completely
  • The Realme 6 is a power-packed phone that's definitely one of the most interesting offerings in its price segment - with segment-first features like a 90Hz display and 30W fast charging, it is one of the best smartphones money can buy in this price segment - the Helio G90T is a great performer, the quad-camera setup offers versatility, and Realme's UI is quite good too
  • Beautiful, attractive, premium glass design (Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back - a first for Realme), with a modern gradient finish at the back
  • The phone is also marginally smaller than the Realme X and is lighter too at 183 grams, which gives it a very balanced in-hand feel
  • The glass on the back is of the glossy kind, but it barely registers any fingerprints or smudges and it isn't very reflective
  • The in-display fingerprint sensor is snappy as is the facial recognition
  • Excellent 6.4-inch FHD+ (1080x2340) Super AMOLED display with a dewdrop notch - it has vibrant colours, deep blacks, good sunlight legibility, and good viewing angles - one of the best displays of this price range
  • Also comes with Widevine L1 standard, which means videos on platforms like Netflix and Prime can be seen in crisp HD resolution
  • ColorOS is now more streamlined than before, and packs fast animations that helps the phone feel snappy - there are of course a number of add-on features too, compared to what you would get in stock Android
  • The UI also isn't ad-strewn as recent Xiaomi phones have tended to be
  • Very good performance backed by the powerful Snapdragon 712, which is one of the better mid-range mobile SoCs out there, especially for gaming - the Realme XT is able to run graphically intensive games like PUBG on default high graphics without breaking a sweat - of course day-to-day use is a breeze too
  • Thermal management is good too - the phone remains quite cool throughout gaming sessions
  • Excellent quad camera setup at the rear - 64MP primary + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth sensor - this is the first phone to launch in India with a 64MP sensor
  • Much like the popular 48MP sensor, the 64MP camera also works (by default) on a 4-in-1 pixel binning technology that combines four 16MP shots to offer one bright and detailed photo
  • The primary camera capture some really attractive photos in daylight, offering good brightness and clarity - with HDR enabled, the camera offers a wide dynamic range
  • The ultra wide-angle camera comes in handy if you want to capture a wider frame of view or want a different perspective on the subject (but there is some noise even in daylight conditions)
  • The camera also supports Nightscape (Night mode), which comes in handy in low-light conditions, and helps improve picture clarity
  • The Realme XT also does a very good job when using Portrait mode - edge detection is excellent thanks to the dedicated 2-megapixel depth sensor and details are crisp
  • Good video recording performance - image quality is good, and there is also stabilization at 1080p (but not at 4k)
  • Excellent selfies from the front camera, and stabilized selfie videos
  • Overall, this is now arguably the new camera champ of the under 20k category, coming out a bit ahead of the current leaders pack - the Realme 5 Pro, the Realme X, and the Redmi Note 7 Pro
  • Good speaker - verbal audio sounds clear enough even in max volume, and the audio is loud enough for you to hear the phone ring from another room
  • Very good battery life with a large 4000mAh battery - you will get about 1.5 days of moderate use
  • There is VOOC 3.0 fast charging support, which is great - you can charge up the Realme XT in about 80 minutes
  • Once again, like clockwork, Realme has launched another champion phone with the XT, that sets the benchmark for mid-range phones even higher
  • But more broadly, you won't go wrong with either of the current leading 3 Realme phones - Realme 5 Pro (cheapest, Snapdragon 712, but not a premium glass design, not a 'full-screen' display, not an AMOLED display), Realme X (pop-up selfie, and 'full-screen' AMOLED experience, but not a premium glass design, and 'only' Snapdragon 710), or the Realme XT (premium glass design, AMOLED display, best camera of the lot by a small margin, Snapdragon 712, but not a 'full-screen' display) - and you can chose one depending on your priorities
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • A bit thick at 9.6mm
  • The rear panel isn't glass, and could pick up minor scuffs and scratches (though, it's more durable and light-weight)
  • There are still a number of pre-loaded apps however - though most of these can thankfully be uninstalled
  • The macro lens doesn't really excel at what it is supposed to do, the detailing of the images is low because of the very low 2MP resolution (though, it help take closer shots of smaller subjects)
  • In low-light, the camera quality is average - pictures turned out to be hazy and grainy
  • There is as usual some bloatware that comes pre-installed (but most of it can be uninstalled)
  • The macro lens is ordinary - you will be able to get really close to the subject, but detail levels in the images are low
