2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Beautiful, 'shimmering' rear (plastic) panel, and a modern, notch-less 6.5-inch OLED screen - easily one of the best looking phones in this price bracket
- The notch-less display spans almost edge to edge, with a pop-up selfie camera mechanism
- Fairly fast in-display fingerprint reader
- Very good 6.5-inch OLED screen - colors are lively, with deep blacks
- The lack of a notch really helps make the screen appear immersive, and consuming content on the screen is a pleasure
- ColorOS UI is now much more streamlined than before - there’s also now an app drawer, and a useful shortcut menu accessed by swiping from the sides
- The gesture navigation is nice and intuitive too
- Very good performance backed by the powerful Snapdragon 710 chipset - everything from daily use to high-end games is smooth
- GPU performance is an especially strong point of the Snapdragon 710, so if you are into gaming, the phone tends to comfortably outperform rivals
- Excellent set of dual rear cameras (48MP+5MP) and front camera (16MP)
- Very good overall image quality in daylight, and fairly good quality in low-light as well
- Night mode is pretty effective too
- Very good portraits
- Pretty great selfies too, from the 16MP front camera
- Realme’s EIS does a solid job of stabilization during videos at up to 1080p/30fps
- Support for 4K video recording (without EIS though)
- Overall, the Realme X is arguably the best camera setup of this price bracket now, even beating the excellent cameras on the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro - and is in fact comparable to cameras in phones at twice the price
- Good battery life with a 3750 mAh cell - you will comfortably get a day of use, even with heavy usage
- The class-leading VOOC fast-charging nicely complements the long battery life - it fills a completely depleted battery in 1:18h and it's at the 50% mark 30 minutes into it - which are some excellent numbers
- The Realme X looks like an incredible value package, no matter how you look at it, and will inevitably disrupt its price bracket in a big way - what you get is top-end specs, a 'full screen' AMOLED display with a pop-up selfie camera, very good performance, an excellent set of cameras, and super fast charging - you can't ask for more
|
- Beautiful, attractive, premium glass design (Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back - a first for Realme), with a modern gradient finish at the back
- The phone is also marginally smaller than the Realme X and is lighter too at 183 grams, which gives it a very balanced in-hand feel
- The glass on the back is of the glossy kind, but it barely registers any fingerprints or smudges and it isn't very reflective
- The in-display fingerprint sensor is snappy as is the facial recognition
- Very good 6.4-inch FHD+ (1080x2340) Super AMOLED display with a dewdrop notch - it has vibrant colours, deep blacks, good sunlight legibility, and good viewing angles - one of the best displays of this price range
- Also comes with Widevine L1 standard, which means videos on platforms like Netflix and Prime can be seen in crisp HD resolution
- ColorOS is now more streamlined than before, and packs fast animations that helps the phone feel snappy - there are of course a number of add-on features too, compared to what you would get in stock Android
- The UI also isn't ad-strewn as recent Xiaomi phones have tended to be
- Very good performance backed by the powerful Snapdragon 712, which is one of the better mid-range mobile SoCs out there, especially for gaming - the Realme XT is able to run graphically intensive games like PUBG on default high graphics without breaking a sweat - of course day-to-day use is a breeze too
- Thermal management is good too - the phone remains quite cool throughout gaming sessions
- Excellent quad camera setup at the rear - 64MP primary + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth sensor - this is the first phone to launch in India with a 64MP sensor
- Much like the popular 48MP sensor, the 64MP camera also works (by default) on a 4-in-1 pixel binning technology that combines four 16MP shots to offer one bright and detailed photo
- The primary camera capture some really attractive photos in daylight, offering good brightness and clarity - with HDR enabled, the camera offers a wide dynamic range
- The ultra wide-angle camera comes in handy if you want to capture a wider frame of view or want a different perspective on the subject (but there is some noise even in daylight conditions)
- The camera also supports Nightscape (Night mode), which comes in handy in low-light conditions, and helps improve picture clarity
- The Realme XT also does a good job when using Portrait mode - edge detection is excellent thanks to the dedicated 2-megapixel depth sensor and details are crisp
- Decent video recording performance - image quality is good, and there is also stabilization at 1080p (but not at 4k)
- Overall, this is now arguably the new camera champ of the under 20k category, coming out a bit ahead of the current leaders pack - the Realme 5 Pro, the Realme X, and the Redmi Note 7 Pro
- Good speaker - verbal audio sounds clear enough even in max volume, and the audio is loud enough for you to hear the phone ring from another room
- Very good battery life with a large 4000mAh battery - you will get about 1.5 days of moderate use
- There is VOOC 3.0 fast charging support, which is great - you can charge up the Realme XT in about 80 minutes
- Once again, like clockwork, Realme has launched another champion phone with the XT, that sets the benchmark for mid-range phones even higher
- But more broadly, you won't go wrong with either of the current leading 3 Realme phones - Realme 5 Pro (cheapest, Snapdragon 712, but not a premium glass design, not a 'full-screen' display, not an AMOLED display), Realme X (pop-up selfie, and 'full-screen' AMOLED experience, but not a premium glass design, and 'only' Snapdragon 710), or the Realme XT (premium glass design, AMOLED display, best camera of the lot by a small margin, Snapdragon 712, but not a 'full-screen' display) - and you can chose one depending on your priorities
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- ColorOS still has some bloatware though, and is not quite as clean/simple as stock Android
|
- There is as usual some bloatware that comes pre-installed (but most of it can be uninstalled)
- The macro lens is ordinary - you will be able to get really close to the subject, but detail levels in the images are low
