Design
- Mesmerising, striking design with a "holographic" rear pattern - this is a phone that will turn heads
- Excellent build
- Comfortable to hold, with great ergonomics
- Hole-punch design means you get a beautiful bezel-less 'full screen' experience at the front
- Side-positioned fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate
Display
- Very good display quality - color-accurate, bright display
- It's LCD though, not OLED, so blacks are not quite as deep, and colors not quite as punchy, as say the OnePlus 7
Software
- Huawei's custom Magic UI on top of Android adds a lot of features and options
- It's one of the heaviest customizations of Android among the current Android skins from different manufacturers, so if you seek a pure and simple Android experience, you will want to look elsewhere
Performance
- Flagship grade, butter smooth performance with the powerful Kirin 980 at the core (between the Snapdragon 845 and 855 in terms of benchmarks)
- The 8GB RAM on board makes light work of loading multiple apps without issue
Camera
- Excellent, versatile quad camera setup at the rear (wide angle, standard, 3x zoom, macro)
- Image quality is very good, and comparable to top-end flagships, except it's own elder sibling, and the best cameraphone at present - the P30 Pro, but other than that, it can stand up to other top cameraphones
- Very good 32-megapixel selfie camera too
- Of the 4 cameras at the rear, while the other 3 are very good, the dedicated macro camera is not, and seems like a needless addition - the results often tend to be grainy and over-processed
- Large camera protrusion at the rear
Audio
- No 3.5mm headphone jack (though Honor does provides a USB-C-to-3.5mm audio dongle in the retail package)
Memory
- Large, 256GB internal memory
Battery
- Excellent battery life with a large 4000mAh battery - you will comfortably go through a day and more, even with heavy use
- SuperCharge fast-charging support
Verdict
- On the whole, the Honor 20 Pro is another excellent alternative in the now hyper-competitive budget flagship segment, and can stand up to the best of the pack - the OnePlus 7 (which has AMOLED display, cleaner UI, but not as good cameras), the Asus 6Z (which has cleaner UI, true 'full screen' experience, but again is not as good in the camera department), and the Galaxy 10e (which has cleaner UI, but is not as great in terms of battery life)
