Design
- The Lenovo Z6 Pro is a looker - a slick, trendy glass-sandwich smartphone with gradient paintjob
- Nice, responsive under-display fingerprint scanner
Display
- Punchy 6.39" AMOLED screen with a small notch, and excellent brightness levels
Software
- Lenovo's ZUI is pretty close to stock Android - which is a good thing - it keeps things nice and simple - and there is no bloatware
- But given the fact that the only changes are to the look of the notification shade, and the task switcher, and no major features are added, the ZUI layer could have been easily skipped, which would have resulted in an even more responsive feeling UI
Performance
- Top-notch, flagship-grade performance with the flagship Snapdragon 855 chip
Camera
- The excellent camera setup on the Z6 Pro is the real headline feature here - it rivals the best camera phones - the iPhone XS, the Galaxy Note 10, the Galaxy S10 and the Pixel 3
- You get a unique camera set at the rear - in addition to the familiar ultrawide/primary/telephoto trio, the Z6 Pro also packs a 2MP dedicated video camera for nighttime videos, and a 3D ToF camera to help the autofocus and the portrait mode
- Overall, the Z6 Pro excels both day and night, in both shooting stills and videos
- Portrait mode is very good - one of the best on any phone
- Night mode is excellent as well - in fact it can rival Huawei's Night mode (the current leader in night-time photos), and the pictures also come way faster
- Selfies from the 32MP front camera come out very good too - detail is enough, the contrast and colors are great, and the dynamic range is decent
- Video recording quality is good too - videos are rich in detail, with excellent contrast, lively (though a bit over saturated) colors, and notably high dynamic range
- A special USP of course is the nigh-time video camera that also includes OIS/EIS - it can produce some excellent footage at night, and of sports events (via a night mode and a sports mode)
Audio
- Nice, loud, balanced single bottom-firing loudspeaker - though it's not a stereo setup as is present on key rivals like the OnePlus 7
Battery
- Excellent battery life with a large 4000mAH battery - you will comfortably get 1.5 days of use
- Fast charging support - you get about 45% charge in 30 minutes
Verdict
- The Lenovo Z6 Pro comes across as an excellent 'budget flagship', and is probably the best phone Motorola/Lenovo has assembled in a while, and it excels specially in camera performance
- There is some solid competition around though in the budget flagship domain - there is the Redmi K20 Pro (uninterrupted screen, Gorilla glass protection on both sides, but no dedicated video snapper, and ToF shooter), the OnePlus 7 (Gorilla glass on both sides, OxygenOS advantage, but not as versatile in the camera department), and the Zenfone 6Z (Gorilla glass on both sides, even better battery life, but less versatile cameras)
