2-Minute Review

Let's cut through the noise, and get to the crux of it. 18+ Expert Reviews analysed and summarised by the PhoneCurry Editorial Team, in a short and sweet 2-minute review.

  • Luxurious, futuristic foldable phone design- Samsung has added polish to its screen-folding innovation - the Galaxy Fold2 is still using the same design language from the first Fold, it is a tablet that folds in half, you get an awestruck feeling here
  • The overall design is much more improved, it doesn't feel like a concept anymore, Samsung has fixed most of the issue that Fold had - the inside display goes from edge to edge and there's no weird notch, same is the case with the outer cover display, it feels much more like a regular phone without any weird quirks, except that it folds in half
  • Samsung has made some changes in the hinge too, that makes the phone fold - this smooth backbone to the Fold 2 lets you prop open the inner display at any angle from 75 to 115 degrees, so you can stop mid-unfold and use the phone like you would a very tiny laptop - or, since half of the phone is standing upright, you can easily snap a selfie using the rear camera
  • Samsung has put the fingerprint sensor on the side-mounted power button and it is fast and accurate
  • It is still thick and cumbersome to carry - when unfolded, its girth is 16.8mm, and it does feel as if you’re holding two average-sized phones back-to-back in your hand and it weighs at 282g is heavy to use for too long as a phone (though, it’s heavier than the Galaxy S20 Plus at 186g, but not twice as heavy, as its double-up-phone look may suggest)
  • The screen crease is still here and also hard to stop noticing
  • It's far from water or dust proof, and particles may easily get under the screen

  • Huge, impressive AMOLED, 7.6-inch main screen - the mini tablet-like screen creates a wonderfully spacious canvas on which to play games and enjoy your favourite content
  • The 6.2-inch Cover Display is now more usable - it’s a meaningful jump from the measly 4.6-inch front screen that made the original Fold feel as if it contained more black bezel than actual screen
  • Both screens, front and inside, look tack-sharp, and the inside display benefits from an adaptive 120Hz screen refresh rate - it is excellent for watching videos, photos and reading, and it makes for an excellent second screen - it proves that a foldable phone can be truly useful and not just a gimmick
  • The main display is still covered with a plastic protective layer rather than glass, the screen doesn't look quite as brilliant as it does on Samsung's usual AMOLED phones and it is also not as durable, it will scratch easily

  • Samsung's OneUI works well, and split screen multitasking is especially pleasurable on the big display - Samsung has added some meaningful software features for Fold2, like the Flex mode, which shifts the content on 2 half of the screen when the phone is folded at 90-degrees and it if useful in supported apps
  • The bulk of apps on the Cover Display transition seamlessly to the inner display, thanks to Samsung' App Continuity - Samsung worked with developers to ensure that apps can move from one screen to the other without interrupting the experience

  • Top of the life performance from the Snapdragon 865 Plus - it performs even better the S20 or Note 20 series because it uses the best chipset available in the realm of Android world - it doesn't get any better than this

  • Very good triple camera setup - there's a 12MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 12MP telephoto camera (though, it doesn't exactly employ the latest, and greatest camera tech Samsung currently has to offer)
  • The main camera on the Z Fold2 performs just as well as it does on the Galaxy S20, a very-competent, flagship-grade processing, all around
  • If Samsung deems the ultrawide sensor is good enough for the entire Galaxy S20 family, all the way up to the Ultra, it's a relatively safe bet to assume that it should be good enough for the Z Fold2, as well
  • The telephoto snapper on the Z Fold2 has a native zoom level of about 2x - it delivers competent shots
  • The selfie camera is the same as on the Samsung S20 and it is as good as it is there
  • Samsung has added all the bells and whistles from its other flagships, Live Focus, Single Shot, Night Mode, etc and they all work well
  • Overall, these are as dependable cameras with all the latest software feature Samsung ships with its other flagship and they will do for you in the Fold2

  • Excellent stereo speakers

  • Good, dependable battery life - it can get you the whole day on average daily usage (though, keep in mind if you use the inner large display extensively, it will deplete the battery much faster)
  • 25W fast charging support & wireless charging

  • Dedicated customer support

  • The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is an outstanding piece of hardware that also gets the software experience just right. Samsung made all the needed changes to its premiere folding phone and solidified the idea that a phone can also be a tablet
  • It’s a gigantic phone, it’s also not water resistant, doesn’t have a headphone jack or expandable storage, and is perhaps more fragile than other phones - Oh, then there’s the price, it’s crazy expensive and doesn’t offer any real value for money, in the way people expect
