2-Minute Review

Let's cut through the noise, and get to the crux of it. 3 Expert Reviews analysed and summarised by the PhoneCurry Editorial Team, in a short and sweet 2-minute review.

  • Fairly slim, and light
  • The texture given to the plastic makes this phone look a bit cheap
  • The buttons placed on either side of the phone feel flimsy and there's a lot of play in the power button
  • The rear fingerprint sensor is accurate, but on the slow side
  • Face recognition is even slower - it doesn't work in low light, and at times, even under good light, it will fail to detect your face

  • Fairly bright, 5.85-inch HD+ display
  • The auto-brightness setting isn't very accurate though, and indoors, you will often find the brightness to be a little higher than necessary
  • There's also a pretty wide notch on the top, due to which certain elements like the battery percentage are only visible when you pull down the notification shade
  • The Innelo 1 also has noticeably thick borders on all sides of the display, and a pretty large chin

  • The custom SmartMe UI is pretty basic, and not as feature-rich as the competition
  • It also comes with a lot of preloaded third-party apps that can't be uninstalled, such as Amazon, NewsPoint and Gaana - even trial games are treated as system apps and can't be removed

  • Very mediocre performance, based on a weak MediaTek MT6737H quad-core CPU (similar to the now very old Snapdragon 410), and 2GB of RAM
  • There are lags when switch between apps, and at times even simple things like typing can feel laggy if you have many apps open in the background

  • Average rear 13-megapixel camera - colours are muted and details aren't very good - macro shots lack good sharpness and clarity - and there's no portrait shooting mode
  • Low light performance is even worse - focusing speeds dip drastically and it takes a good couple of seconds to lock focus - details are soft and there's there is visible noise and grain in dark regions of the photos
  • The front 5-megapixel camera is average too - capturing soft images under good light, and slightly grainy ones in low light
  • Video recording is mediocre too, with no stabilisation, and low framerate that varies depending on the available light - you are often left with blurry and unusable footage

  • Shockingly, there isn't any 3.5mm headphone socket on the phone - the Innelo 1 ships with a headset that has a Micro-USB plug - something you wouldn't have seen ship with any smartphone in recent memory - there isn't any Micro-USB-to-3.5mm dongle in the box either and the ones that are available online don't come cheap
  • Additionally, the bundled headset sounds terrible

  • The phone lacks a compass, which means you can't tell the direction you're facing in Google Maps

  • The 16GB of storage is pretty limiting too - you get roughly 8GB free for apps and other files, and that fills up quickly if you download bigger apps, like games - luckily there is an option to format a microSD card as part of the internal storage - but that will have lower read speeds, further degrading performance

  • Battery life is quite weak too - the 3000mAh battery struggles to last till night, with heavy usage

  • The Innelo 1 is pretty hard to recommend at its price point - you would be much better off looking at the likes of Asus ZenFone Max M1 or even the Xiaomi Redmi 6A
